✦ Synopsis

The standard redox reaction rate constants of azobenzene adsorbed to the mercury electrode are k, = 350 + 25 s-' in the acidic perchlorate medium (pH 2) and k, = 175 f 2Os-' in the acetate buffer pH 4.7. Under the influence of 0.2X, 0.5% and 1% acetonitrile in these electrolytes, the rate constants are reduced to 265 + 5s-', 160 k 20~s' and 77 k loss', at pH 2, and to 150 + 5s-' and 56 + 13~~' at pH 4.7.
