✦ Synopsis
In this paper we present ;I method for the measurements of molecular dephasing and rddiationlcss decay in g~ser hnd solids. The technique utilizes a single-mode of a tunable dye laser and nn extracavity acousto-optic clement. 'The latter dtffracts the ldscr beam into or out of the sarnpe for finite times when a tram of radio frequency pulses IS fed mto the tr.msduccr. Using th:s laser-acousts diffractton spectroscopy (LADS) we report some new results on iodine gas, and pcntdccnc in ap-terphenyl host at 1.8 K. Combining these new results of !.ADS on pentaccne and our earlier tmdings using the frequency switchinp method we present an analysts for the effect of laser b.mdwidth on the drw) of the prepared exited states.
