✦ Synopsis
Results are presented of field measurements of mean wind speed and of the three components of turbulence intensity within a mature corn canopy. Small cup anemometers were used to measure mean wind speed. An exponential relationship, such as that described by Cionco (1972), was a good fit to the canopy wind speed profile, the canopy index a being approximately 2.2. Relative turbulence intensities, measured with a hot film anemometer differed somewhat from comparable measurements presented elsewhere. Values increased progressively with depth in the canopy.
