✦ Synopsis

The excitation function of the '*C(p,pn)"C reaction in the 100-200 MeV energy region has been studied experimentally at the Institute of Theoretical and Experimental Physics (ITEP). The measurements are relative, but have been normalized to an absolute value of 63.3 mb at 98.1 MeV. The relative measurements have an error of +3% with a normalizing error of 0.5%. The accuracy of the activation method using the W(p,pn)"C reaction as a primary standard for proton flux measurements in clinical proton therapy is shown to satisfy international recommendations.
