Daily totals of solar ultraviolet-B (300-316 nm) and fullband (300-3000 nm) radiation were measured over 18 months at Sutton Bonington in the English Midlands. A relation was established between the little-measured but biologically active UVB waveband and the routinely recorded full solar radiation.

Statistical relationships between the hourly radiation intensity values of both ultraviolet-B (UVB) and ultraviolet-A (UVA), and of the corresponding global radiation at two sites in Israel, the Dead Sea and Beer Sheva, are presented using radiation data measured from January 1995 to January 1999. A dosimeter for WB radiation was developed based on photoinduced dimerization of thymine in microemulsion. The UV absorption change of the dosimeter can be monitored spectroscopically. The sensitivity of the dosimeter can be adjusted by varying the local concentration of thymine in the microemulsio
