✦ Synopsis

F&tat&:: rate con!;tants kz/kl for the renction of vibration& excited HCI (u = 1) &.b oxygen atoms Hai1 )cO -OH+Ct, (k?) to the reaction HCl(O)+O-+ OH+CI, (kl) wssncsmed in a Row system (l-2 rorr) et room temperature. Vacuum UV resonance fiuarcscence was used far the detection of the product chlorine atoms, combined with infrvcd fluorescence to follow the HCI (u = 1) decay. In this way vibrational rehxation by oxygen atoms could be excluded from the pure chemical rcactian rate. The mensured ratio X-,lk, is 300 + 100.
