β¦ Synopsis
This brief paper presents a study conducted on an industrial liquid-liquid extractor which had been operated with lower throughput rates than the design to meet the product specifications. The study showed that a certain amount of the aqueous phase holdup should exist at one section of the extractor to carry out the required mass transfer. This fact had been thought of neither at the extractor design stage nor after a few years' operation experience. Differential equations representing the holdup dynamics were developed and an on-line measurement and control system was designed to maintain the holdup constant.

For partial substitution of conventional diesel fuel with liquified-petroleum gas (LPG) fuel, in an indirect-injection, (IDI) diesel engine, the so-called 'mixed diesel gas' approach has been applied. For this purpose, a carburetted LPG fuel system has been designed and fitted on the inlet manifold
## Abstract A numerical simulation has been performed to clarify the effects of turbulence in a liquid on the deformation of the liquid jet surface into an air flow. The turbulences in the liquid jet were simulated by the Rankin vortices, and the liquid jet surface was tracked numerically by the vo
