✦ Synopsis
By means of a newly developed electron energy analyser. the ratio a(*P3q2 j/o(*P$) for 90" electron ejection has been directly measured for argon gas in the range O-0.050 eV above the respective 2P:n and 'PO tR photoionization thresholds. Pronounced spectral variation of the branching ratio is observed, due to auto onizing ns and n'd levels above the *P&, threshold. The results of a multi-channel quantum defect analysis account quantitatively for the measurements.
