The fundamental frequencies of "ber-reinforced laminated cylindrical shells with a given material system are maximized with respect to "ber orientations by using the golden section method. The signi"cant e!ects of shell thickness, shell length, cutout and end condition on the maximum fundamental frequencies and the associated optimal "ber orientations are demonstrated.
