For a compact subset X of eN (N EN) with non-empty interior a sequence (B,,)~_o of function algebras on X is constructed such that (i) C(X)=B o :) B 1 :) B z :) .. . (ii) for each n ;;;'O, B n +! is a maximal subslgebra of B« (iii) ("\ Bn={f EC(X) : f is analytic on the interior of X}.
