Abstract

Moritz (Maurice) Loewy was born in Vienna, studied in Vienna and emigrated to France because he was a Jew and could not get a position in Vienna. In Paris he became director of the observatory. Our investigation removes the ambiguity on Maurice Loewy's birthplace, and we conclude that he was born in Vienna in 1833 (© 2009 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
