✦ Synopsis
Book Reviews of element occurs. The topics briefly discussed include plate with edge beams, plates on elastic foundations and vibrations of submerged structures. Next is a short discussion of recent achievements in the field of finite element analysis, including a number of suggestions for possible future research. Professor Zienkiewicz states in the last article : "the limited scope of this book, in which an endeavor has been made to state in a simple manner the concepts of the flnite element method, cannot do full justice to all the possible applications or variants of the basic approach." It is the reviewer's opinion, however, that Professor Zienkiewicz has written a textbook which will become a classic in its own time. The final chapter includes a flow chart and a detailed program for plane stress or strain of triangular elements. This program is written in FORTRAN IV. Following this are a number of useful appendices.
The reviewer recommends this book very highly and feels that practicing engineers and educators interested in the field of structural analysis will find this a valuable addition to their libraries.
