The well-known finite element representation of reinforcing bars by means of overlay ("rebar") elements is recast in the context of finite strain analyses of cord-reinforced composite materials. The variational formulation including the linearized forms is presented on the basis of hyperelasticity.

โฆ Synopsis
In the paper a mathematical formulation for embedding reinforcements in 3D brick concrete elements is presented. The computational aspects and the implementation process of the model have been discussed. The proposed algorithm may be implemented in 3D finite element programs for stress analysis of reinforced concrete structures.
