✦ Synopsis

Abstract

This article deals with a mathematical model describing the interaction between a cutting machine and workpiece in a milling process. The model consists of a system of ordinary differential equations with delay for the dynamics of the cutter and a linear thermoelastic system for the workpiece. Using Galerkin approximation method it is proved that the presented model admits a unique weak solution (© 2011 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)

This paper describes the use of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and mathematical optimization to determine the optimum operating conditions and geometry of a continuous quenching process. The pump power as well as the quench rate of the steel plate in this process is in#uenced by many parameters.
