The Dutch company DSM has begun the commercial evaluation of the dendrimer it has produced in a pilot plant, and plans are being made for worldwide distribution. The first shipment was of more than 100 g of this novel type of ohgomer that has caused problems to other companies. In the DSM unit 1,4diaminobutane is reacted with acrylonitrile and the resulting branched nitrile products are hydrogenated using Raney cobalt catalyst. The dendrimer could find uses in coatings, adhesives, lubricants, plastics, agrochemicals, and drugrelease agents.
