The symposium brought out that most of the present tribological problems in the textile industry are due to higher bearing loads and speeds resulting from increasing use of fewer, higher production, machines. The answer lies partly in improvements to existing bearings and systems; but often unconventional materials, such as those based on porous metals and plastics, in spite of the new problems they pose, may provide the best solutions.
