โœฆ Synopsis


The rate of fluid exchange between the attached recirculating wake and the free stream has been measured for spheres and circular discs set normal to the flow. The body Reynolds number was varied from 50 to 200. The results are presented in terms of mass transfer coefficient, the height of a transfer unit and the dimensionless mean residence time. The last of these parameters appears to correlate wake shedding phenomena over a very wide range of Reynolds number. A simple model is proposed for the prediction of mass transfer coefficient from wake geometry data.
