✦ Synopsis
The ionized molecular species obtained by electron impact and chemical ionization of the organic hydrate 2-bromo-3,3-dihydroxy-(2-thienyl)-4,4,4-trifluoro-1-butanone were analysed using the mass-analysed ion kinetic energy spectrometry method. The structure of the side chain and the position of the C-atom of the gem-diol group in the compound were established from the characteristic product ions formed from the metastable and collisionally-activated M + • and MH + ions.
