โœฆ Synopsis

Monotrimethylsilylated flavonoid methyl ethers were studied with electron impact mass spectrometry, and derived from natural compounds by methylation, hydrolysis and trimethylsilylation. Spectra were compared with those of the permethylated fiavonoid. Fragment ions were distinguished among the various types; the [M -151' ion for 3-0-trimethylsilylated flavonoid methyl ethers, the [M -721 +. ion for 5-0-trimethylsilylated flavonoid methyl ethers, the M+', [M -11' and [M -TMSiO]+ ions for 7-0-trimethylsilylated flavonoid methyl ethers and 3'or 4'4-trimethylsilylated flavonoid methyl ethers and the [M -191 + ion for 3,5di-O-methyIflavonoids. Further, fragmentation mechanisms and their differences were examined with the aid of labelled compounds and relative compounds of the trimethylsilyl group.

## Abstract Flavonoids are very common and widespread secondary plant metabolites. They have a wide range of biological and physiological activities and serve as chemotaxonomic marker compounds. Therefore, they have been extensively investigated both in the past and during recent years. The interes
