✦ Synopsis

The mass spectral fragmentations of Sketosparteine, 13-hydroxysparteine, 13-epihydroxysparteine, 13ketolupanine, 13-keto-a-isolupanine, lfhydroxylupanine, 13-hydroxy-a-isolupanine, 13-epihydroxylupanine and 13-epihydroxy-ar-isolupanine are reinvestigated and discussed. Fragmentation pathways, elucidation of which was assisted by accurate mass measurements and metastable transitions, are proposed. The fragmentation assignments are not consistent with those previously reported in the literature. Many fragment species of the same m/z (lowresolution spectra) are composed of two fragment ions of different elemental compositions (high-resolution spectra). The obtained data create a safe basis for distinguishing structural and stereoisomers.

The allylic and homoallylic alcohols 1 ± 8, prepared from ()-camphor and (À)-fenchone, were ozonized in Et 2 O at À788 and treated with Et 3 N or LiAlH 4 to give the chiral hydroxy carbonyl compounds 9 ± 16 and the diols 17 ± 24, respectively (Scheme 1). In the case of the diols 19 and 24, the forma
