✦ Synopsis

The fragmentation of chlorinsted goaiacols (2-methoxyphends) on electron impact has been studied. The most common fragmentation processes are interpreted and in some cases the smell difterences between spectra of positional isomem are explained. In addition to the well-known allrylsxygen fission ( h ~ of methyl radical), metastable ion stodies and deoterium labelling have ideated several new fragmentation pathways.

The most characteMc are the formation of fM-CH,-HCl]' and fM-CH,-Cl]' -ions. In general, however, the spectra of positional isomem are shown to be very similar.
