In terms of the theory which describes the instantaneous frequency shifts in liquids as a purely discrete Markovian process, an approximate analytical expression for the time correlation function of vibrational dephasing is given, and its fit to experimental data is tested. A comparison with the (non-Markovian) stretched exponential model is made. Within the two theories, the static correlation functions being transformed by molecular motion are shown to tend to the same Kubo limiting low, but the Markovian process tends from above and non-Markovian from below
