personal product companies with global headquarters outside the USA is UK firm Unilever with sales of $26.3 bn. The firms were ranked based on sales of household, personal care and beauty products during their most recently concluded fiscal year. Personal care sales climbed 4% to $16.5 bn but sales of home care and other products dropped by more than 3% to $9.7 bn. In second place is Francebased L'Oreal with sales of $24.3 bn. L'Oreal's sales and net income declined below 1% and 3%, respectively, in 2009 due to the prolonged economic slowdown. By product category, 27% of overall sales came from skin care products, 22.7% from hair care, 21% from makeup, 15% from hair colorants, 10.5% from perfumes and 3.8% from other products. UK company Reckitt Benckiser took the third spot with sales of $12.1 bn. The firm reported higher sales growth in 2009 unlike the majority of companies in the International Top 30. Revenues were up 18% while sales, even at constant exchange rates, increased 8%. Growth was buoyed by the company's 17 Powerbrands including Calgon, Clearasil and Gaviscon, which represented 70% of sales in 2009.
