✦ Synopsis

We examine the implications for Tellegen beha¨ior of the classical electromagnetic fields by pro¨iding a deri¨ation showing that nonreciprocity is not to be expected in ordinary chiral-like or bi-isotropic media. Nonreciprocal beha¨ior will only be attained by combining the basically reciprocal chiral or bi-isotropic materials with known nonreciprocating media.
