✦ Synopsis

The study of complete sediment micro-flora has usually involved the use of core samples or grab samples with their associated waters. Dynamic variations have been followed in the laboratory by measuring oxygen changes chemically ( WAKSMAN and HOTCHKILL, 1937) or by the use of the oxygen electrode (KNOW-LES, et al., 1962). I n other studies the results of the addition of organic matter t o natural sediment communities have been followed by analyses for long-term degradation products (BOTAN,
