We describe the unusual preliminary results of manganese(III) acetate based tandem oxidation of various b-alkoxy 2-cyclopentenone and 2-cyclohexenone derivatives to afford corresponding a%-acetoxy-a%phenyl substituted oxidation products in good yields.
