Abstract

The environment in which nursing care is provided is changing, particularly as hospitals face nursing shortages, modifications in the patient care delivery models, and financial constraints imposed by managed care or the Balanced Budget Act of 1997. These changes can engender new nursing liability exposures as well as create an unsafe patient care environment.
