This volume is concerned with the genetics and demography of managing endangered species. It contains excellent up-to-date contributions, some being highly original. The author list is a veritable who's who of these fields. While this book arose out of a meeting at Front Royal, Virginia, in 1989, it is in no way out of date.

The contents of this volume are much more original, and frequently more challenging, than the related Proceedings of the 1984 Front Royal Meetings (Zoo Biology 5:81-238, 1986). That was primarily a synthesis of available information.
