turn visit to the ED within 7 days. The treatment protocol was introduced in January 1982. Treatment of the patient was and continued to be directed by the PGY1 and PGY2 housestaff. Although the protocol was stressed to the housestaff, strict direct supervision of its use was not possible. Charts were reviewed retrospectively to assess the impact of the treatment protocol.
