โœฆ Synopsis

C ytomegalovirus (CMV) is a ubiquitous herpes virus that, together with human herpesvirus type 6 (HHV-6) and HHV-7, belongs to the ฮฒ-herpesvirus family. Like other herpes viruses, CMV establishes lifelong latent infections. Infection with CMV is common in all populations, but is infrequently associated with symptomatic illness in healthy hosts. However, CMV is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in transplant recipients. CMV infection is the single most common opportunistic infection after solidorgan transplantation and directly and indirectly affects the outcome after orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT).

## Key Points 1. Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a common infection after liver transplantation and manifests as an asymptomatic infection or clinically as CMV syndrome (fever and myelosuppression) or tissue-invasive CMV disease. 2. Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections contracted after liver transplantation put patients at an increased risk of morbidity and mortality. Clinical practice guidelines recommend antiviral prophylaxis to cytomegalovirus (CMV) donor-positive/recipient-negative (D+/R-) liver transplant recipients. We assessed the outcome of this strategy by determining the incidence, clinical features, and risk factors of CMV disease among CMV D+/R- liver

A vast majority of the transplant recipients are cytomegalovirus (CMV)-seropositive (R+). We sought to assess variables predictive of CMV infection, specifically in R+ liver transplant recipients. Study patients comprised 182 consecutive liver transplant recipients who survived at least 14 days afte

The hepatitis G virus is a newly discovered flavivirus that has been linked to acute and chronic hepatitis of unknown cause. We determined the prevalence of hepatitis G virus infection in 179 selected patients undergoing liver transplantation at three centers participating in the National Institute
