Thuiskomen na een oorlog is nooit eenvoudig. Dat ontdekken sergeant Dave Henley en zijn peloton wanneer ze terugkeren van hun missie in Afghanistan. Het verschil tussen het dagelijkse bestaan thuis en de strijd op het slagveld is groot, voor iedereen. Wanneer de mannen onverwachts worden opgeroepen om naar Helmand terug te keren, is de opluchting bij hen dan ook groot. Maar voor hun echtgenotes, vrienden en familie betekent het plotselinge vertrek het vooruitzicht van elke dag opnieuw moeten leven in angst.
Voor alle betrokkenen breekt een gevaarlijke tijd aan. Daves peloton moet een Amerikaans team beschermen dat tot taak heeft de opiumoogst te vernietigen. Het is een nieuw soort missie waarbij hun overlevingstechnieken dagelijks op de proef worden gesteld. Maar ook de levens van de vrouwen thuis kunnen net zo makkelijk kapot worden gemaakt: een verkeerd geΓ―nterpreteerde blik leidt algauw tot een misverstand, en een levensgevaarlijke roddel is geborenβ¦
