✦ Synopsis
The relative ener&oss distribution of 0: ions scattered backwards in the czntre-of-mass system from He is calculated by application of a recently presented Mapx approsimation to vibrationally inclasticcollinear atom-diatomic noleculc collisions. Excellent agreement with the experimental data is obtained by a one parameter potentti fit.
The relative energy-loss distribution of 0; ions scattered through 180" in centre-of-mass by helium atoms has been measured at a relative energy of 11 .I eV by Ctteng et al. [I . defined by the molecular axis BC. The ~cornjn~ BC oscillator is assumed to interact with atom A only via a strongly repulsive potential between particles A and B such that in the centreof-mass system only backscattering is possible.
Eckelt and Korsch [2,3 J applied an impulse approximation to this cot&near model and thus calculated the relative energy-foss dist~bution of Oi ions scattered backwards by helium atoms :2] _ It should be stressed
