✦ Synopsis
The anisotropy of the transport properties of the antiferromagnets UNiGa and UNiAl is connected with the huge uniaxial magnetic anisotropy and the specific magnetic structures of these materials. The low temperature resistivity values are dramatically reduced in magnetic fields which produce a metamagnetic transition.
The large magnetoresistance is typical for materials characterized by a strong coupling of conduction electrons with highly correlated f-electrons.

We have studied magnetic, electrical and specific heat behaviour of (U,\_,Y,)NiAl, U(Ni,\_,CoI)A1 and U(Ni,\_,Fe,)AI pseudoternary compounds derived from the itinerant antiferromagnet UNiAI. Y, Co or Fe substitutions in UNiAl lead to a rapid disappearance of long range magnetic order, however, the s
offset by the fact that this is the way a strain gauge experiences a magnetic field in a normal determination of magnetostriction. The temperature of the discwas measured using carbon and platinum resistance thermometers. The resistance changes were measured using a d.c. Wheatstone bridge.
