✦ Synopsis

Bi-doped lanthanum manganite with chemical composition of La 0.62 Bi 0.05 Ca 0.33 MnO 3 has been prepared by the standard solid-state process. The effect of Bi doping on the sintering temperature, the magnetic and magnetocaloric properties has been investigated. Bi 2 O 3 was found to be an effective sintering aid for La 0.67 Ca 0.33 MnO 3 . It was found that small amounts of Bi doping (x ΒΌ 0:05) can lower the sintering temperature about 200 1C. Bi-doped samples also exhibited a large magnetic entropy change, |DS m | ΒΌ 3.5 J/kg K under 1 T field at the Curie temperature.

The hydrothermal synthesis and magnetic entropy change for the perovskite manganite La 0.7 Ca 0.2 Sr 0.1 MnO 3 have been studied. The La 0.7 Ca 0.2 Sr 0.1 MnO 3 can be produced as phase-pure, crystalline powder in one step from solutions of metal salts in aqueous potassium hydroxide solution at a te
