✦ Synopsis

We report measurements of the static magnetic susceptibility on polycrystalhne samples of La2CuO4_j, and YBa2Cu3OT_y m the temperature range 3-300 K at both ambient and high pressure The magnetic susceptlblhty ofnonsuperconductmg La:CuO,_y with y_< 0.02 shows above 3 K no measurable change under hydrostatic pressure to 10 kbar, ~ e. I 0In z/OPI < 2%/kbar. The onset of the Melssner signal for superconducting YBa2Cu30692 sample shifts toward h2gher temperature under pressure at the rate 0To/ 0P= ( + 0.05 _+ 0.02)K/kbar, whereas the normal-state suscept~bxhty appears to be msensltlve to hydrostatic pressure ( 10In Zp/ 0P[ < 0.1%/kbar ) up to 16 kbar at room temperature.

The temperature dependence of the ab-plane electrical resistance (Rab(T)) of YBa2Cu307\_y single crystals has been studied under hydrostatic pressure up to 8 kbar using helium as the pressure transmitting medium. The aln(aRab/aT)/aln V value obtained by us is approximately four times greater than th
