✦ Synopsis

The role of the Kondo effect and intersite exchange interactions in heavy-fermion and related systems is analyzed. A theory is presented which describes the formation of magnetic order in Kondo lattices. We discuss the possibility of an RVB-type state forming in frustrated systems with charge and spin degrees of freedom. An analysis of relevant experimental examples is made.
