โœฆ Synopsis

Precision measurements of the magnetisation curve of 3He will be a test for the different theories describing this Fermi liquid. For this purpose, we have developed a sensitive torsional magnetometer with a low non-relaxing background. The relaxation of the 3He nuclear magnetisation observed with this instrument shows the expected single exponential behaviour.

This paper reviews the experimental work on transiently polarized 3He with the method of rapid melting of solid 3He. The experiments are concerned with the superfluid transition temperature and the susceptibility of pure 3He, and the relaxation time of 3He dissolved in superfluid 4He.
