✦ Synopsis

We measured the magnetic susceptibility on a high-quality single crystal of the heavy-fermion compound UP& in the temperature range from 3.5 to 22 K in steady magnetic fields up to 28 T with the field direction along the a axis of the hexagonal structure. The maximum in the susceptibility at 17 K, due to spinfluctuations, becomes more pronounced with increasing magnetic field and shifts to 13 Kat 10 T. The peak at the metamagnetic transition disappears smoothly with increasing temperature without changing the position at Bc=20 T. We propose a 'phase -diagram' for a crossover from the low temperature (T<17 K) low field (B<20 T) to the high temperature high field paramagnetic spinfluctuation state.
