✦ Synopsis

A magnetic study has been carried out on the transition metal intercalated vanadyl phosphates M (VOPO 4 ) 2 • 4H 2 O (M ‫؍‬ Co 2؉ , Ni 2؉ ), which contain linear trimers of V‫؍‬O-M-O‫؍‬V between the layers. Ferromagnetic interactions have been found to be mediated through these linear trimers.
