The Cu-doped layered cobalt sulfides, BaCo 1؊x Cu x S 2؊x/2 and BaCo 1؊x Cu x S 2 , have been synthesized with the single-phase region 04x40.5. Both series are semiconducting. The resistivity of BaCo 1؊x Cu x S 2 decreases drastically with increasing Cu content. Increasing sulfur content has a simil

✦ Synopsis
Magnetisation, thermal expansion and resistivity studies have been performed for Er(COl_xCUx) 2 compounds with x = 0.0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.2 and 0.3. The 3d magnetic moment of this series slowly decreases with copper concentration, whereas the Curie temperature increases with x after an initial decrease for low x values. The magnetic phase transition at T c changes from first order to second order around x = 0.1. These results are discussed within the Inoue-Shimizu model. Additional specific heat experiments are reported for Y(Co0.sCu02) 2. Volume thermal expansion measurements have been carried out on the orthorhombic compound ErCu 2 in order to confirm a previous analysis of the linear thermal expansion in terms of the volume derivative of the crystal-field parameters.
