✦ Synopsis
The paramqnetic susceptibility iorrnu!a ofd4-ions are derived using second-order perturbation calculations. The magnetic moments oE mametically diluted d4compounds YZ close to the spin-only value if T > 25 K. At lower tcmpcratures the mqnetic moment decreads as the temperature becomes lower. The magnetic susceptibility of Nas[Mn(C_Ht06)1(H2O)Z]-9HZO ha: been measured down to 1.30 K. From the magetic susceptibility measurements the zero-field splitting constant, ~1 and61 have been obtained (D = -3.5 cm-' , g/l = 1.963, gl = 1.993). The electronic spectrum at 77 K has been recorded and interpreted in terms of a crysta! field of&h symmetry.
