β¦ Synopsis
Magnetic properties of palladium sul5de bronzes RPd 3 S 4 (R β«Ψβ¬ Ce, Gd) are reported. They crystallize in a cubic platinum bronze type structure. Their magnetic susceptibilities were measured from 2 to 350 K. The initial magnetization and magnetic hysteresis loop were measured at 2 K by changing the applied magnetic 5eld between Ψ5 and 5 T. The electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectrum of Gd 3Ψ was also measured at room temperature. GdPd 3 S 4 shows an antiferromagnetic behavior below 5.8 K. Above 10 K the magnetic susceptibility follows the Curie law, and the e4ective magnetic moment is determined to be 7.36 B . The magnetic moment is not saturated up to 5 T and no magnetic hysteresis has been found. From the EPR measurement the g value of Gd 3Ψ in GdPd 3 S 4 is determined to be 2.00. CePd 3 S 4 shows ferromagnetism below 5.8 K. The residual magnetization is only 0.39 B and the magnetic moment at 5 T is 0.83 B at 2 K. This result shows that the ground state 8 of Ce 3Ψ is split into two Kramer:s doublets by the crystal 5eld. From the magnetic transition temperature of both GdPd 3 S 4 and CePd 3 S 4 , the superexchange interaction is considered to be dominant in the magnetic interaction of these compounds.

We have investigated the transport and magnetic properties of RPt 2 In 2 (R ΒΌ La, Ce, Pr, Nd, and Gd) compounds by means of the AC electrical resistivity r and DC magnetic susceptibility w measurements. Both r(T) and w(T) data indicate that LaPt 2 In 2 and PrPt 2 In 2 are non-magnetic above 2 K. The
