โœฆ Synopsis

BY an enclosed superconductor we mean one which is surrounded by another superconductor. In particular, we shall consider the coaxial cable arrangement of Figure 1. We shall discuss the magnetic behaviour of the inner superconducting rod when flux is trapped by the enclosing superconducting shell and show that the behaviour is analogous to that of an ellipsoid. Various features of the system will be described, including the simple intermediate state that is expected and the behaviour in weak fields.
