✦ Synopsis

A polycrystalline

LJAu, ,Ga, 5 compound of 14/mmm symmetry, being the structural analogue of ThCr,Siz. was examined by means of magnetic and specific heat methods.

A transition to the antiferromagnetic state observed at T, = 4X K in x,,c and xAC measurements is confirmed by the C, data which show an additional peak at 45 K. Analysis of '+ the C,(T) function indicates the presence of a U ion with a magnetic doublet as the ground state. A low y value of 9.5 ? 6.3 mJ/K* mol points out a good localisation of the 5f level. A C, step equal to about 2R and some short-range effects can be understood in the framework of the Bethe-Peierls-Weiss approach to the Ising s = l/2 system.

Magnetizations were measured for both UNi I ~PdxGe (x = 0.0, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75) and UPd, ,.PtyGe (y = 0.0, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1.0) systems. UNi 1 ~Pd~Ge shows a sinusoidal magnetic transition with TN~55K followed by ferromagnetic trans-formation below 40 K. Pd rich UPdl ~.Pt~.Ge undergoes a ferromagneti
