The magnetization of very dilute Al-Mn and AI-Fe alloys was measured from 2 to 0.01 K in order to obtain a limit on how nonmagnetic such systems are. Results indicate that the impurity contribution to the magnetization is almost temperature independent and that the moment per impurity is less than 1
The electric quadrupole moment Q for the ground state of 31 Al (I p = 5/2 + ) was measured by means of the b ray-detected nuclear quadrupole resonance. A spin-polarized radioactive beam of 31 Al was produced in the projectile-fragmentation reaction of a 40 Ar beam on a 93 Nb target. For the Q moment
