✦ Synopsis
The electronic relaxation of ferric ions in Fe(N03)3'9H20 and in frozen aqueous mlutions has been invest@ted by use of hlijssbsuer spectroscopy. The application of an external magnetic field causes a pronounced tiaease of the spin-s-pin relaxation time, an effect which is contrary to that normally found in ferric compounds. An explanation is given bared on a difFerence in the ionic state energies of neighbouring ions induced by the applied magnetic field.
