β¦ Synopsis
The magnetic excitation spectrum of TmTe before and after the insulator-to-metal transition under high pressure has been studied by inelastic neutron scattering. Below the critical pressure of about 2 GPa, there seems to be no qualitative difference in comparison with the spectrum at P ΒΌ 0. In contrast, in the ferromagnetic anomalous metallic state above the critical pressure, an inelastic peak appears at 9 meV as in TmSe at P ΒΌ 0. The 9 meV excitation is considered to be a characteristic of the valence fluctuating ground state in Tm monochalcogenides, where both valence states are magnetic.
