✦ Synopsis
The magnetic susceptibility of the terminal UCu 6 Al 6 alloy in which the copper atom is substituted by Cr, Mn and Fe was measured at T ¼ 1:92400 K in a magnetic field of 5 kOe. The Cr pseudoternary alloy is paramagnetic following the modified Curie-Weiss law (MCW) above about 100 K. The Fe substituted compound seems to be ferromagnetic below about 160 K. Its susceptibility follows the MCW law above about 160 K. The magnetization of the Mn alloy was examined at 4.2 and 125 K in the magnetic fields up to 140 kOe. Both these dependences as well as the magnetization vs. temperature plot shows a ferromagnetic ordering below T C ¼ 370 K: The electrical resistivity as well as the specific heat vs. temperature plots do not provide any confirmation of magnetic order. These last measurements give an enhanced value of the Sommerfeld coefficient. The reason for that is briefly discussed.
