✦ Synopsis

A further experimental contribution to the knowledge of the magnetic interactions in compounds with perovskite structure is given. LaMnO 3 is an antiferromagnetic compound, but it is shown that it would be ferromagnetic if the cubic perovskite structure, present at high temperatures, could be preserved at low temperature. Besides the positive magnetic interaction between Mn 3+-and Mn 4+ -ions an interaction of the same sign is found between Mn 3+-and Cr 3+ -ions. A survey is given of the results of this and former investigations. S a n t e n and Dr J. S m i t for many stimulating discussions. He wishes further to remember gratefully the collaboration of Mrs E. R. v a n G emert van Abkoude and Mr W. Noorlander (preparation), Mr J. V i s s e r (chemical analysis), Dr P. B. B r a u n and Mr C. L a n g er e i s (crystal structure) and Ir P. J o n g e n b u r g e r (saturation measurements), DrsE. O. Wollan andW. C. Koehler have been kind enough to send a copy of their paper 4) prior to publication.
