β¦ Synopsis
Magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) in superconducting and insulating YBa2Cu3Ox thin films is studied. The MCD spectra in superconducting samples exhibit a linearly field dependent structure at 4-5 eV. The field and temperature dependences, the latter seeming to obey the Curie law, suggest that this structure is associated with the intraionic 3d-4p transitions of localized Cu ions at the Cu-O chains. These transitions are thought to be the origin of the peak at 4.1 eV observed in insulating ones. A comparison of the spectra of insulating YBa2Cu3Ox dielectric function studies and this work is also given.
